The highlights of the stage
The fourth stage of the Giro della Valle d'Aosta, Saint-Pierre > Valsavarenche of 160.6 km, ended with the victory of Jarno Widar. A second victory in as many days for the Belgian from Lotto Development Team, who today also dedicated his triumph to the memory of Samuele Privitera.
98 riders started at 11:25, on a day characterized by four KOMs and over 4000 meters of elevation gain. The initial phase was animated by several attempts, all unsuccessful. At the intermediate sprint of Avise, the battle for the dedicated classification saw a new episode of the duel between Filippo Agostinacchio (Biesse Carrera) and Maxence Place (Wanty Nippo Re Uz), with the Aosta Valley rider preceding the Belgian.
Among the most active to note was Slovenian Jakob Omrzel (Bahrain Victorious), who passed in the lead at the KOM of Cerellaz and finished second at the KOM of Champremier behind Jarno Widar (Lotto Development Team). Omrzel and Widar were part of the leading group that fought for victory in the final climb where there were several attempts: among the most active were Danish rider Kevin Biehl (General Store), Italians Matteo Scalco (VF Group Bardiani CSF Faizanè) and Edoardo Zamperini (Arkea B&B Hotels).
Everything was decided in the final kilometers where Jarno Widar, after setting the pace for a long time, attacked and crossed the finish line with 9" over Jakob Omrzel, Irishman Liam O'Brien (Lidl-Trek) at 15", Ecuadorian Mateo Pablo Ramírez (UAE Team Emirates Gen Z) at 27" and Matteo Scalco at 29".
In the general classification, Widar leads with 3'01" over Frenchman Jean-Loup Fayolle (Arkea B&B Hotels), 3'02" over Ramírez, 3'32" over Irishman Jamie Meehan (AVC Aix en Provence Dole) and 4'13" over Matteo Scalco.

Technical Info
The queen stage of the 2025 edition with four categorized climbs and over 4,000 meters of elevation gain. The first obstacle is the climb of Cérellaz, just over 5 km with double-digit gradients, then halfway through the stage there is the climb of Champremier, 10 km full of hairpin bends and demanding gradients. A technical descent leads to the tough climb of Les Fleurs: there are still 47 km from the summit to the finish line, of which the first 15 are downhill to Aymavilles and Villeneuve, where the long and irregular final climb begins.
Last arrival in Valsavarenche (Le Pont): 18-07-2019, 2nd stage Aymavilles - Valsavarenche, 137.6 km. Winner: Kevin Inkelaar (Ned).
Tourist info

Saint-Pierre is situated at an altitude of 731 metres on the orographic left of the Dora Baltea river, between apple orchards and vineyards, well exposed to the sun. The scenery is made fairy-tale by the castle which dominates the landscape from the top of its fortress and it is clearly visible even at night thanks to a suggestive lighting system. From Saint-Pierre you can easily reach both Aosta and the valleys of the Gran Paradiso National Park.

Valsavarenche (1540 m) lies in a narrow and wild valley with wooded scope and it is dominated by the majestic natural amphitheatre of Gran Paradiso, the only '4.000' peak completely in Italian territory. Located in the heart of the Gran Paradiso National Park, Valsavarenche is frequented mainly by hikers, attracted by the numerous paths that wind through the protected area. Here it is easy to come across wild animals such as chamois, ibexes, marmots and foxes. Most of the trails still used today were built by the royal family of the House of Savoy who came here to hunt.
