The highlights of the stage

Designated as decisive for the final ranking of the 59° Giro Ciclistico Internazionale della Valle d'Aosta - Mont Blanc, the stage from Rapy di Verrayes to Clavalité di Fénis was 172.5 kilometers long and had a positive gain of 4,710 meters. The race debuts with a group of fugitives who take off: among their names stands out the one of Jonathan Vervenne (Soudal Quick - Step),  in search of precious points for the conquest of the CVA polka dot jersey. From there soon, however, to surprise everyone is the attack of Darren Rafferty (Hagens Berman), third in the overall standings. The Irishman, in fact, stretches on the group trying to blow the bench from afar,  he joins the fugitives (among whom he finds the support of teammate Antonio Morgado) and puts in trouble the bigs of the race. Thanks to the impulse of the Portuguese Morgado and the remaining fugitives, in fact, the advantage over the best increases over 5 minutes. The group is struggling to organize and no team takes charge of the chase, so the head of the race overcomes the climbs of Col d'Arlaz and Verrayes with Vervenne and Rafferty to divide the points of the GPM.  To join a wild Rafferty, then,  on the ascent of Champremier remain Aviv Bental (Israel Premier Tech), Mauro Brenner (Team DSM), Sergio Meris (Team Colpack Ballan) and Jonathan Vervenne (Soudal Quick Step). Behind them, when the group is at 8 minutes, they break the delays in four: Brieuc Rolland (Groupama FDJ), Maxence Place (Hagens Berman), Marcel Camprubi (Q36.5) and Florian Kajamini (Team Colpack Ballan). Vervenne, Rafferty and Brenner pass through the GPM in this order. Following the descent, then, the dreaded climb that leads to the finish line of Clavalitè casts to the lead a trio formed by Rafferty, Brenner and Meris, with the latter,  despite a setback at the foot of the ascent, that manages to get back to the head of the race. Behind them, however, a wild Isaac Del Toro (Monex) goes back to the fourth position. In the final stages, about 1 kilometer from the finish line, there is a powerful extension of Sergio Meris (Team Colpack Ballan) that flies solo to the finish line and wins the stage in memory of Battista Pieiller, ahead of the new yellow jersey Eaux Valdotaines Darren Rafferty (Hagens Berman), Mauro Brenner (Team DSM), Isaac Del Toro (AR Monex)and Charles Paige (Bourg Ain),  come in the nick as well as all the others of the group to witness the hardness of the fraction. Said of the "revolution" in the general ranking with the Irish Rafferty to precede Alexy Faure Prost (Circus King Uz) and Isaac Del Toro (AR Monex), the other jerseys of the race are: Alexy Faure Prost (Circus King Uz) white young jersey Matterhorn Ski Paradise , Jonathan Vervenne (Soudal Quick Step) CVA polka dot jersey, Darren Rafferty (Hagens Berman) blue jersey Aosta Valley Region and Dylan Vandenstorme (Circus King Uz) red jersey Haute Savoye Le Département of Sprint Catch.

Tourist info

Known for being a nature-friendly and a responsible tourism destination, Verrayes has a lot to offer to everybody. This town can be discovered and appreciated slowly because of its mild climate all year long and its particular and sunny position at about 1,000 m of altitude, on a nice promontory that dominates central valley. But Verrayes also has a charming natural environment and some unexpected artistic treasures, which only wait to be uncovered.

Already known in ancient times, this valley is rich in minerals and it is the only area in which there is a rock salt deposit in the Aosta Valley. It owns an idyllic panorama, marked by some isolated building, among which stand the Notre-Dame de la Neige chapel and the last chalets of the Maison Blanche hamlet to the top of the valley.
