The third stage of the 58th Giro Ciclistico Internazionale della Valle d'Aosta Mont Blanc began from the center of Aosta on an extreme hot day. 138 kilometers with four KOMs and two Sprint Catch distributed between the Gran San Bernardo Valley, Courmayeur, and the regional capital, Aosta, the start and finish location. The first breakaways attempt for the Sprint Catch in Valpelline with first Mason Hollyman (Israel), second Lorenzo Milesi (DSM), and third Robin Skivild (Uno X Dare). Following that, the breakaway takes the first KOM of Doues, with Giulio Pellizzari (Bardiani CSF Faizané) ahead of Lorenzo Milesi (DSM) and Oscar Onley (DSM). Lenny Martinez, wearing the Yellow Jersey Eaux Valdotaines, and his team Groupama FDJ has complete control of the group. There are five attackers in front of the race at the KOM of Verrogne. Giulio Pellizzari (Bardiani Faizané CSF) goes first, followed by Alex Baudin (Tudor) and Lorenzo Milesi (DSM). Up to Courmayeur, the plot remains unchanged, with Giulio Pellizzari crossing first, followed by Alastair Mackellar (Israel) and Thomas Gloag (Trinity Racing), while at the Courmayeur Sprint Catch, Baudin triumphs over Pellizzari and Gloag (Trinity). The race is also locked in the long return towards the valley's bottom. At the KOM of Col d'Introd come first Pellizzari, Gloag, and Mackellar, ready to play for stage victory in the final 20 kilometers. The nervous final between Gressan and Charvensod suited the talented French rider Alex Baudin (Tudor), who used his descending skills to gain a few seconds on his breakaway comrades in the tortuous dive to Charvensod, extending his lead until the finish line in Aosta. The rider from Fabian Cancellara's Swiss team then wins ahead of Lorenzo Milesi, Thomas Gloag, Alastair Mackellar, and Giulio Pellizzari. The larger group of the best-ranked riders finished more than 2 minutes later and was led by Sean Flynn, the stage winner's teammate. Nothing or barely changes in terms of jerseys, with Lenny Martinez (Groupama FDJ) wearing the Eaux Valdotaines yellow jersey and the Valle d'Aosta white jersey. His teammate Enzo Paleni (Groupama FDJ) continues to lead the sprint cash ranking in the red Haute Savoie jersey. Giulio Pellizzari (Bardiani CSF Faizané) takes over the CVA Energie polka-dot jersey KOM leader.
