   17/07/2022 · Stage 5     VALTOURNENCHE  >  BREUIL CERVINIA   km. 120,6

The majestic Matterhorn served as a natural backdrop once again for the final stage where French rider Lenny Martinez (Groupama FDJ) won the 58th edition of the Giro Ciclistico Internazionale della Valle d'Aosta Mont Blanc. The fifth and final stage, 119 kilometers from Valtournenche to Breuil-Cervinia, began with a breakaway of riders competing for Sprint Catch and KOM points. These included Sean Flynn (Tudor), his successes in the Pollein and Chatillon sprint catch lines got him the red and white Haute Savoie Sprint Catch jersey. Robin Skivild (Uno X Dare) was the first to cross the Verrayes KOM, earning the CVA Energie polka-dot jersey. For the rest, it was deja vu: Lenny Martinez's Groupama FDJ maintaining the peloton's pace, largely due to the efforts of Enzo Paleni and Lorenzo Germani to avoid surprises and attacks on the leader. As a result, the breakaway has enough room to pursue comfortably. The final kilometers to Cervinia are only important for the stage winner, Oscar Onley (DSM), who dropped and won ahead of Walter Calzoni (Italian National Team) and Matthew Riccitello (Hagens Berman Axeon). There is little or no action in the peloton, and Lenny Martinez can cross the finish line with his arms raised as the 58th Giro della Valle d'Aosta winner. Thus, the French rider succeeds his teammate Reuben Thompson, who finished second this year at 25 ". Simone Raccani (Italian National Team) finished third overall at 1' 46" ", fourth was Marco Frigo (Israel), and fifth Riccardo Ciuccarelli (Italian National Team). Sean Flynn (Haute Savoie Sprint Catch jersey), Robin Skivild (CVA Energie KOM jersey), and Oscar Onley (Valle d'Aosta points jersey) receive the remaining race jerseys. Finally, the Italian national team won the team classification in the 58th Giro Ciclistico Internazionale della Valle d'Aosta Mont Blanc, while the Yellow Jersey Eaux Valdotaines, Lenny Martinez, was also the first of the Youth classification (first year among Under 23). Lorenzo Germani (Groupama FDJ) was awarded of the prize for the Most Epic Cycling Venture of the Giro Valle d'Aosta 2022, named in memory of Osvaldo Bassi.
