Stage 5: VALTOURNENCHE / BREUIL CERVINIA

The 56th Giro Ciclistico Internazionale della Valle d’Aosta – Mont Blanc ends with the 120km of the stage from Valtournenche to Cervinia. The first part of the stage (with the descent until Chatillon and Pont Saint Martin and the Fabiole KOM) is animated by the breakaway composed by Baroncini (Beltrami Hopplà Petroli Firenze) and all the three rider of the German team Herrman Radteam (Ademitz, Heudemann and Tarlton). The final climb towards Cervinia is crucial and the head of the race is joined by the main contenders. At 5 km to go there are Ries (Kometa Cycling Team), Van Gils (Lotto Soudal) and Bagioli (Team Colpack) at the front. The sprint on the final straight is won by Andrea Bagioli, ahead of Maxim Van Gils and the rider from Louxembourg Ries, winner of the stage ending in Champoluc. The yellow jersey Vansevenant comes with the other riders Hartley (SEG Racing Academy) and Inkelaar (Groupama FDJ). No surprises for the GC with Vansevenant that wins the trophy managing the gap gained in Saint Gervais. He gives 4’30’’ to the British Adam Hartley and 9’18’’ to the Danish Kevin Inkelaar. 4th place goes to Maxime Chevalier (VC Pays de Loudeac), that was second in the first stage. 5th place fot the climber from Ethiopia Haiolemichael Mulu Kimfe (Dimension Data For Qhubeka). Then Santiago Buitrago (Team Cinelli) and the Italian Filippo Conca (Biesse Carrera). In the top10 there also are the Danish Schelling (SEG Racing Academy), winner of the stage in Saint Gervais, Lopez Perez, winner in Champex Lac and Parra Cuerda (Equipo Lizarte). For what concerns the other rankings, the KOm jersey goes to Mulu Hailemichael, the white jersey to Kevin Inkelaar and the red one to Simon Guglielmi (Groupama FDJ). The best Young rider is Mauri Vansevenant, while the Kometa Cycling Team is honored as best team.
