Prologue: SAINT-GERVAIS MONT-BLANC / SAINT-NICOLAS DE VÉROCE

Matteo Fabbro is the first leader of Giro Valle d’Aosta, which is at the 54° edition. The 21-year-old rider of Cycling Team Friuli, won the prologue, a time trial of 8 kilometres from Saint Gervais Mont Blanc to Saint-Nicolas-de-Véroce, scoring a time of 16’38”43. An amazing result for the Italian rider, who has recovered in a blink his double collarbone fracture happened during the last Giro Ciclistico d’Italia U23. “I gave everything I had to recover quickly and to achieve the right shape to face the Giro Valle d’Aosta”: this thought of Matteo Fabbro give much more meaning to his yellow jersey here in Haute Savoie. Russian Pavel Sivakov (BMC), one of the favourite for the overall victory, finished second in 16’47”97, scoring a good gap on his contenders, the Belgian Bjorg Lambrechet (Lotto Soudal) and the Aussie Lucas Hamilton (MItchelton Scott), respectively 6th and 8th on the finish line, with 6” and 12” of gap. On the third step of the podium the rider from Monaco, Victor Langellotti (UC Monaco): his time is 16’48”02. The best among the young under20s and winner of the first white jersey is Alessandro Monaco (Hopplà Petroli Firenze), 18th in today’s overall chart.

Prologue: SAINT-GERVAIS MONT-BLANC / SAINT-NICOLAS DE VÉROCE

km. 8.0

The Giro della Valle d’Aosta starts from France, and more precisely from Saint-Gervais Mont-Blanc where a year ago Mark Padun got his win. This year it's the time for a 8 km prologue from the center of Saint-Gervais to the village of Saint-Nicolas-de-Veroce: the central stint of this stage against time has been faced also in 2016 by both the Petit Tour and the Tour de France. The first kilometre throught the town center looks quite difficult with some ascents for climbers: then the road becomes less tough and less winding, but it will continue to climb up to the arrival. Suitable for both climbers and pure timetrialists.
